Peter J Ottesen, Educator/Writer I've lived in Stockton since 1968 following active duty with the California National Guard and obtaining a BA in journalism with emphasis on business and economics.

I served as a Director with the San Joaquin County of Education for 35 years, overseeing a staff of 32 and budgets in excess of $1.5 million. I also acted as media liaison for the San Joaquin County Board of Education. Retired in 2003.

Concurrently I served as manager of the Stockton Symphony for 21 years, bringing the performing arts to local schools and classrooms. In addition I have been the outdoor writer for The Stockton Record since 1973, receiving Writer of the Year honors from the Outdoor Writers Association of California.

In 2003 I was named California Schoolmaster of the Year by the California Schoolmasters Club and voted into the California Outdoors Hall of Fame, a select group of 13 members that include Ansel Adams and John Muir.

A strong supporter of the University of the Pacific Benerd School of Education, I led a 7-year Capital Campaign that netted more than $5 million. In addition, I served 12 years as a trustee at The Haggin Museum and more than 15 years as a trustee of the William Friedberger Scholarship that has awarded more than $3.5 million to bright, financially needy high school graduating seniors so they could attend university.

My wife, Alexandra, was a French/journalism teacher at Stagg High School in Stockton.
