Fiscal Responsibility and Job Growth

I've applied this philosophy while leading the budget and planning process at the City of Mission (the largest city in the 5th District) and the $1.5 billion Orange County Transportation Authority.

Below are a few successes I've achieved in both roles:

Improve, Don't Move: As Mayor I created a program to encourage homeowners to upgrade their homes by slashing permit fees. More than $400,000 was ultimately saved by taxpayers who created more than $28 million in economic development in the region...simply by being encouraged through permit fee reductions. The program was honored by the Orange County Taxpayers Association in 2012 as being among the top two taxpayer-friendly policies in Orange County that year. AAA bond ratings: By demanding fiscally conservative policies, Mission Viejo is one of very few California cities awarded a AAA bond rating from Moody's + the highest achievable ranking. Balanced budgets with strong reserves: I'm proud to have approved balanced budgets during each of my six years on city council and two at OCTA. These budgets all reflect restraint, fairness and responsibility. I promise to bring this same philosophy and energy to the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
