Over the past few years, I've been working as a petitioner in the city of Fresno.Over the past few years, I've been working as a petitioner in the city of Fresno. All types of issues effecting our local community I've advocated for or against with the people in mind. I've championed the idea that the people are the true power and we as people have the right to be heard when it comes to government affairs. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit in on a city supervisor board meeting. I heard dozens of people speak to the council. All of the people wanted to be considered as the issue was near and dear to our community. I witnessed a diverse group of people; from lawyers, to home makers, and retired citizens plead with printed sheets of relevant laws and subject matter for the panel. But at the end of the day, not a pamphlet was read, nor did the board say a word. It was like the decision had been made prior to this meeting, which was apparently a tool used to seem democratic. For this reason, I decided to run for city council. I live in the southwest area of Fresno in the 93706 zone classified as district 3 of Fresno. Here I see a hopeful, yet neglected area of families, property, and esteem. Right now I'm fighting to repeal a new water fee planned to go into effect this year. My opponent, Oliver Baines voted to approve this initiative. The fee associated with this city wide water rate hike will more than double the current price of water for every home in Fresno. I'm leading an effort to protect the citizens of this community by advocating that everyone sign and spread the petition to repeal the water rate fee increase. My endorsements come from the people who make up the community. I've decided to take my case straight to the people because that's where the power is. The real power lies with the people. (A partial list of my district 3 residential endorsements is available at www. eddierashad.com) Interaction amongst the community in general is a positive experience. Most of the time while petitioning, I get a lot of support. Once the people hear what I'm working for, they show gratitude and stand behind us with their signature. We have to educate each other on the issues, the importance of voting, and how it affects everyone in the community. As a city of Fresno resident, I actively participate and stand for the principle that a city council member should be the people's representative and should represent the public, not corporate interest. I am a common man and my heart has always been for the people. Respectfully, Eddie Rashad - The People's Choice http://www.eddierashad.com eddierashad@gmail 5595137946 |
