Here are some examples of how I have given back for the good of our Burlingame youth. As President of the Burlingame Historical Society I helped make Burlingame's history accessible in a variety of ways including the opening of the Burlingame Hillsborough History Museum inside the Burlingame Train Station. Publishing a beautiful coffee table-style book detailing Burlingame's rich and diverse past. ( the book, "Burlingame Centennial," is available through Books Inc. and Amazon.) The Society has donated dozens of copies of the book to public and private schools throughout Burlingame. Designing a robust website: http://www.burlingamehistory.org where kids cannot only learn about Burlingame but they can post their own memories on the site for future generations to enjoy. Walking tours are made available for every third grade class in Burlingame both public and private through the Burlingame Historical Society. Initiating "Paint Burlingame," a one-day painting event that encourages kids to use their artistic skills to really see Burlingame in a new and different way. Now in it's fourth year. Helping to develop a program through the grass roots group, Citizens for a Better Burlingame, the "$32 solution" was successful in raising enough revenue to fund the crossing guards throughout Burlingame until sufficient funds were secured by the city of Burlingame. As a past member of the Burlingame Lions Club, volunteering at the annual spelling bee, public speaking contest, welcome events at both Burlingame High and BIS, a three year term playing the role of Easter Bunny and awarding numerous scholarships were highlights of my service with the club. Founding committee member of Burlingame's Annual Pet Parade. Designed and illustrated the Pet Parade poster/flyer/ads for the first six years of the Pet Parade. |
