Political Philosophy for Laura Herbert Anderson
Candidate for |
My name is Laura Anderson. My family moved to Larkspur from Boston 10 years ago after searching all over the Bay Area for a home. For me, a critical factor was the quality of the public schools. We chose well. Each of my three unique children has been inspired by outstanding teachers and stimulating learning environments. I am passionate about public education. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and achieve. We need qualified parents on the Tam Union board. The only trustee on the current board with an enrolled student is stepping down. A parent's perspective makes board discussions come to life. Those dinner table conversations and quick snippets in the car illustrate what students are experiencing in school right now, every day. The whole Tam Union community benefits from a balanced board that encourages open lines of communication between all constituents. I earned a BA in Economics from Carleton College, and then worked in the private financial sector for 7 years. I have a proven leadership record in the community, including board positions at the elementary, middle, and high school sites. Most notably, I Co-Chaired of the successful 2011 Tam Union parcel tax renewal campaign. Despite a recession, we won with an impressive 73% yes vote! I fully appreciate how hard it was to secure that $8.8 million/year for the district and recognize that our community resources are precious. As a trustee, I would leverage my economics and finance background to promote responsible fiscal management. I am also committed to ensuring that we have effective two-way communication with all stakeholders, and most importantly, that ALL students in the district receive an excellent education that prepares them for a fulfilling life beyond high school. |
