Students First

By Robert Foster Hoffman

Candidate for Board Member; Salinas City Elementary School District; Trustee Area 3

This information is provided by the candidate
Parents, students, teachers, administrators, community, and the Board of Education must work together to promote student success.
Parents, students, teachers, administrators, community members, and the Board of Education, need to work in conjunction with one another to promote student achievement and academic success.

It is the responsibility of the parents and educators, alike, to instill and inspire in their students an attitude and mind set of "I can do it," "I will do it," and "I must do it." This can then, translate into a positive, affirming learning experience for not only the classroom setting, but also as a life skill apart from the school environment.

Parents, teachers, and community members must provide learning experiences which encourage the development of self-esteem and a sense of self-worth. This can be achieved through academics, the arts, and sports.

A committed staff is crucial to the success of an educational program. By working together with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members we are able to produce and maintain the highest possible standard of excellence.

It is imperative that we provide for the teaching staff: 1) necessary instructional tools; 2) adequate school site facilities; 3) safe and secure school sites; 4) sufficient supplies for the needs of each student.

The board of Education must: 1) support district personnel in the search for qualified administrators who exhibit the ability, awareness, and personal skill to communicate and facilitate within the realm of a team effort; 2) keep and maintain open communication between all educational support systems; 3) support up to date technology with input from staff, parents, and community members; 4) maintain transparency through communication on a regular basis, via updates, newsletters, and the district website; 5) be accessible to the public; 6) maintain the fiscal health of our district.
