Throughout his life, Alex has been heavily involved in his community. He is a former student board member of the La Caņada Unified School District (LCUSD) Board of Education. He worked to make sure that the K-12 student body received the representation that it deserved. His work on the board did not go unnoticed.

Alex was also a member of the La Caņada Flintridge Youth Council, which is a city commission that uses taxpaying dollars to benefit the youth. During his time on the council, Alex worked to make sure that the drug infiltration was decreased in the local high school. At the January 12, 2010 meeting of the LCUSD Board of Education, Alex publicly commented on the large drug problems at a local park, which is adjacent to the high school. Soon afterwards, the City of Pasadena worked intensely to clean up the problems of the park. Alex took his concerns to the youth council to make sure that this problem will never reoccur.

Recognizing that most high school students were too young to remember much about the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Alex organized a non-denominational memorial event for the 9/11 victims, which took place at the La Caņada Flintridge Presbyterian Church. Over the years, an increasing number of elected officials attended, and the event attracted larger audiences.

Alex's dedication to his community was recognized in May of 2012, when he was awarded the prestigious Les Tupper Community Service Award. Alex will always be a servant to his community and will work tirelessly to improve the quality of life and educational standards for future generations.
