As the county's population grows we need to offer a safe, convenient and attractive place for people to live, work and play. The Borough has been an important crossroads community since the late 1700's, offering goods and services to the greater community and passersby. Since then we have watched the county grow in population as people are attracted to the natural beauty and opportunities that surround us. As a center for growth in the area, I envision current services such as the YMCA, the Bayard Taylor Library and major employers such as Genesis Health Venture continue to thrive here as we encourage development within our borders, saving the countryside for future generations to enjoy. Kennett Square also has the ability to increase its population density, allowing more people to call this town home, whether that means renting an apartment, owning their first home here, starting a family or enjoying their retirement years. We have many of the things people need to enjoy their day to day lives here or very nearby, making this a convenient and affordable place to live, work and play. Kennett Square also has the potential to be linked to surrounding businesses and communities by transportation modes other than the automobile. Current bus services such as SCOOT and Rover have stops right in the borough and are available for those who wish or need to use them. Trails such as the Red Clay Creek Trail already connect us through natural areas to surrounding housing and parks. I fully support actions to provide even more opportunities to walk to shopping districts in surrounding townships that will be safe and enjoyable. |
