Restore Our Government to the PeopleBy Ken SandbergCandidate for City Mayor; City of Simi Valley | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Those we elect need to represent the peopleI am running for Mayor of Simi Valley because I believe those elected need to do the right thing and in the right way. We also need common sense, as well as real communication with the residents and businesses of Simi Valley, not just 3 minutes to speak before the Council. The communication needs to be public as well, which includes ANY text messages during the Council meetings. I am not accepting campaign donations as I don't want to be beholden to those who give the donations, plus accepting money from businesses and people could create a conflict of interest, which I also want to avoid. In order to promote business in Simi Valley we need to listen to the businesses to find out what the problems are and how best to solve them. The business owners know what problems they have had and where the system fails. We need a real CERT program in Simi Valley for emergencies. Currently, there are no monthly meetings or training, unlike other cities, which are needed to keep the volunteers involved, as well as giving the two full-time employees an opportunity to do what they were hired to do. While Council benefits were removed for any newly elected people, the benefits remain for those currently in office and we need to eliminate this either by voting in non-incumbents or forcing the Council to treat everyone equally. The money saved, over $500,000 over the next four years, can be used for City services. |
