Ventura County, CA November 6, 2012 Election
Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Bob Roper

Candidate for
Supervisor; County of Ventura; Supervisorial District 1

This information is provided by the candidate

Creating good jobs and growing our economy: "To rebuild our economy, the County must work closely with local businesses, helping them create the good jobs our people need. In these hard times we should put a freeze on new regulations, and start rethinking old rules that may be getting in the way of business expansion."

Balancing the budget and living within our means: "We don't need new taxes to balance the County budget. We just need to work smarter and focus on our top priorities. When money is tight, we'll have to be more disciplined about budget `earmarks' for pet political projects. And it's long past time that we make some real reforms to cut the costs of our pension systems."

Keeping a strong focus on public safety: "The County has many responsibilities, but I've always believed public safety must be our first priority. That's the cornerstone of our remarkable quality of life here in Ventura County. I will always look for better, more efficient ways of doing things. But my bottom line is that I won't cut back on the levels of service our citizens expect and deserve."

Preserving open space and agricultural land: "SOAR was needed to protect against the kind of land-use mistakes made in L.A. County. As we move forward, we can't forget that agriculture is a huge and prized part of our economy. We need responsible growth to create jobs. But keeping agricultural land viable as open space is essential -- for both environmental and economic reasons."
