We can not afford to start our development plans over. We need a plan that addresses the needs of our citizens but encourages new business and supports our current ones.
I am convinced that the city's general plan vision for the future of Lathrop is sound. Because of the economic climate we need to study our plans and find ways to encourage new and sustained growth. That means working closely with the development community, the Chamber of Commerce our Realtor Association and the different service organizations to identify ways to entice growth without putting our city at risk. Our citizens have asked for traditional services and amenities found in larger cities and we need to explore every reasonable avenue to make that happen. We have already seen examples of our neighboring cities landing businesses that would have come to Lathrop. We need to plan for high density living and make proper use of infill areas to meet the needs of all of our residents. Lathrop will continue to change, how it changes is paramount to our future viability.
