I have a sense of confidence as our Tri City Medical Center moves forward with 4 major infrastructure projects all to be on the current grounds.
Currently the planned build out is as listed;
- Medical office building
- Parking structure
- Administration building
- Hospital
Renovating the current healthcare facility will not aid in developing the hospitals major component, build up infrastructure nor will it help Tri City to meet the growing health related demands.
- Financing by means other than hospital tax bonds must be developed.
Since the hospital component must be completed by 2030, in order to meet the State of California's earthquake requirements:
- Careful frugality is imperative.
We need to carefully assess the combined impact of:
- Financial challenges
- Healthcare reform implementation
- Patient safety and quality
- Governmental mandates
- Care for the uninsured
- Physician-hospital relations
- Patient satisfaction
- Technology
- Personnel shortages
The passage of the Affordable Care Act last year may have reduced some of the uncertainty, but with a surge of patients expected when coverage expands in 2014 and millions beginning to seek health care, there will be an increased need to find cost savings in hospital construction and elsewhere.
- A fiscally conservative approach to building would consider placing the hospital component and parking structure first before the administrative building.
