Personal BackgroundDear Friends, For over 30-years I have worked both privately and publically to make Encinitas a wonderful place for us to live, work and play. As both a current Encinitas City Councilmember and retired Fire Chief of Encinitas, I have contributed to shaping our community. I have participated in building an exceptional public safety system (fire and police), improving and expanding our parks (Encinitas Community Park) and making our 6-miles of beaches some of the finest in the world (World's 20 Best Surf Towns + National Geographic magazine). And to ensure we can sustain this high quality of life, I have been actively involved in pension-reform, believe in balanced City budgets and was recently recognized for my efforts by The San Diego Taxpayer's with their Golden Watchdog Award (over 1 million dollars savings annually). I currently sit on 11 City Committees that deal with many core city services. I have voted consistently for a balanced budget, pension reform, expanding our parks, increased public safety, enhanced beaches, responsible growth (rejecting a poorly drafted General Plan update), reduced neighborhood traffic, protecting the environment and the preservation of community character. I pride myself on being able to work with everyone and have proven myself open to new ideas. If our City is to continue to thrive, we must embrace and respect an open and inclusive public participation process. My office door is always open! We have made a lot of progress during my 9 months in office. Just image what we can do with 4 years! Please vote for Mark Muir for City Council on November 6, 2012. Sincerely, Mark Muir |
