Struggling: Jobs, Money and Good Sense.By Carla MilesCandidate for Council Member; City of Vista | |

Estimates are that $1.4 trillion in "excess private bank reserves" is on deposit at the 12 Federal Reserve banks and $2 trillion of excess cash exists that corporations are sitting on. Vista City Council sets municipal policies and priorities. We need localized policies which will create conditions under which everyone will have a better chance to be successful. Many Vistans are struggling in this economy, barely above the poverty line, very worried about how they are going to meet their own obligations or even help with family needs. "People just above the poverty line are...one paycheck or health disaster away from poverty," Katherine Newman, a dean at Johns Hopkins University told CNN recently. The problem we have in our national economy, which hinders the hiring of our unemployed residents or forces many into underemployment, may be the uncertainties which prevent business owners from redeploying trillions in deposited capital, according to a Forbes article. And, estimates are that there is lots of cash just sitting around. Trouble is that those who control the trillions of dollars are greatly bothered about the uncertainties of tax policy and government regulation. I believe Vista should be a place of sanity here on the West Coast, and getting those who set policy to understand that businesses need to plan around and navigate through a plethora of governmental tax and regulatory policies, would be comforting to many who must plan realistically. They won't hire if they are scared of what is coming from wayward, confused bureaucrats. Please help your unemployed, or greatly underemployed, neighbors by voting to remove people who create uncertainties that prevent business owners from investing/deploying capital here...vote for good sense. -- "Property is the fruit of labor; property is desirable; is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise." (Abraham Lincoln.) "Free enterprise empowers entrepreneurs who have ideas and imagination, investors who take risks, and workers who hone their skills and offer their labor."(Paul Ryan.) |
