Smart Voter Full Biography for Dana Corso

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Oceanside

This information is provided by the candidate

DANA CORSO is a proven community leader. She has repeatedly demonstrated her concern for the people of Oceanside, our neighborhoods and our future.

A long-time resident of Oceanside, DANA CORSO grew up in Michigan where she attended Eastern Michigan University. She understands and supports the interests of Oceanside's working families, having started her first business at the age of 20. She grew that business into numerous branches, began property investments, then sold her business, keeping her relationships with branch owners. Once in Oceanside, she again started her own business which has become well-established and successful over the years and has many long-term clients.

DANA CORSO and her husband George are raising their two sons in the Jeffries Ranch area of Oceanside, where families enjoy recreational activities and an equestrian neighborhood. Located immediately off Highway 76, near Guajome Park, Ms. CORSO became involved with her own neighborhood issues when the City of Oceanside closed Jeffries Ranch Road, leaving only one street open for ingress and egress into their community of about 5,000 people and includes a school and church. In the event of an emergency such as a fire or other natural disaster, residents would be unable to safely evacuate their families and animals through only one exit route. It was this issue that prompted DANA CORSO to become involved in Oceanside politics and fight, not only for her own family, but for her neighbors and surrounding communities.

Two years ago, Ms. CORSO and others formed the Alliance of Citizens to Improve Oceanside Neighborhoods ("ACTION"), which quickly grew to represent 42 Oceanside Neighborhoods. DANA CORSO has served as ACTION's President and guiding force to help Oceanside communities fight for issues affecting their neighborhoods. DANA CORSO was instrumental in helping Oceanside seniors and veterans defeat Propositions "E" and "F" in June, 2012. Ms. CORSO will continue to fight to prevent the proposed out-sourcing of Oceanside's Paramedics and Police Officers, a loss of hundreds of Oceanside jobs. She continues to work to preserve Oceanside's water resources by opposing the toxic waste dump planned along the San Luis Rey River. Ms. CORSO is working to prevent the Melrose Extension that would take away a large portion of Guajome Park and 14 Oceanside homes by eminent domain at a cost to taxpayers over $40 million (when studies have shown it would only improve traffic by seconds). She is fighting to preserve Oceanside's only remaining agricultural land at Morro Hills, which our current Majority Council wants to turn into yet more residential homes at a time when hundreds of Oceanside homes stand empty in foreclosure (a proposal that would be another great burden on taxpayers who would have to pay for utilities, sewer lines and a greater need for emergency personnel.)

DANA CORSO will work for RESPONSIBLE development of Oceanside, not development that would negatively impact our environment or quality of life. She will work to protect our water resources, aquifers and beaches. Ms. CORSO will work to preserve our parks and neighborhood programs for local residents, children and seniors. In this economy, it is critical that we preserve our community's future ability to grow food locally and DANA CORSO will fight to protect our remaining agricultural land and resources. She will stand alongside our seniors and veterans to protect Oceanside's senior communities. She knows first-hand how to start and grow a business and will work with Oceanside's civic leaders to encourage new business growth and create local jobs.

DANA CORSO is a voice for Oceanside's PEOPLE. Her candidacy is endorsed by:

Mayor Jim Wood Councilwoman Esther Sanchez The League of Conservation Voters The Sierra Club Oceanside Fire Association Oceanside Police Association Alliance of Citizens to Improve Oceanside Neighborhoods (representing 42 Oceanside neighborhoods)
