Political Philosophy for Chalynn Marie "Chay" Peterson
Candidate for |

My political philosophy: My belief is that we are all created equal. I believe that we are created to be equal no matter our sex, color, ethnicity, demographic or intelligence. I believe that all have virtue and purpose under the law of man and under the law of nature. I also believe that we as humans have the responsibility to use whatever intelligence, gift, wealth, or purpose to make sure that others, including those of the natural world, have a voice and an opportunity for purpose....man, woman, child, creature. I am not naïve in thinking that man fits the natural world completely, because as we clearly see, he does not. As I see it, man continually degrades the environment he depends on for survival, and knows it. He also knows what changes are necessary for correction, but still he perpetuates the problems. It is my philosophy that man can change his mind, his actions, his present situation and his future (generally speaking). Gandhi said "Be the change you wish to see in this world." ~Mahatma Gandhi I hope to be a part of the change I want to see in this world. There are those in this society who wish to gain for themselves by way of taking control.. To accomplish this, they feel the need for bending the law, gathering false information, or completely disregarding the law altogether. As Theodore put it, "No man is above the law, and no man is below it." ~Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) 26th president of the U.S. I believe that the elected governments have a responsibility to the law, to the people who they serve, and to their own conscience, for they must like everyone else, sleep with themselves at the end of the day. I believe in the importance of the Brown Act, which governs the daily business of local governments, under State law. This particular document ensures that local governments follow stringent guidelines as pertaining to integrity, transparency and open communication, whenever legally possible. Amongst other things, the Brown Act ensures that agency board directors respect each other's duties and keep open communication (transparency) with the community they take a vow to serve. It is my hope to serve the community of Silverado-Modjeska-Williams and bring more open transparency and communication to the SMRPD board and to the public, wherever possible. Sincerely, Chalynn (Chay) Peterson |
