Re-Elect Steve Jones for Garden Grove City Council 2012By Steve JonesCandidate for Council Member; City of Garden Grove | |

Candidate StatementServing as your elected Councilmember has been a great honor. I ask for your support to continue my work on behalf of our city. I was born in Garden Grove and received a quality education in our school system. Now, my wife and I are raising our two children here. My background includes an MBA in Finance from USC and over 20 years of successful business experience. I was the highest vote getter in the 2008 election. Prior to that, I served for seven years on the Planning Commission. As a city official, I have always been a strong supporter of creating jobs and expanding our commercial tax base, while keeping the protection of our neighborhoods in balance. During the next four years, I will work hard and focus on the following: Family Environment: Public safety is paramount. I will fight to eliminate gangs, crime, domestic violence, and graffiti by continuing to support the needs of our police, fire, and paramedics. Quality of Life: I have championed a "Re-Branding Garden Grove" vision to preserve everything that's good about our `small town' while leading us into the future as a `big city.' Looking forward, you can expect more employment opportunities, higher paying jobs, and the arrival of our favorite retailers. Parks: I initiated a study several years ago which determined we had no shortage of park space, but there was a severe shortage of public amenities. Since then, we have built a new dog park, skate park, splash pad, and added recreational equipment, with more improvements to come. Neighborhood Improvement: A comprehensive program was launched by Police and Community Development to improve our most blighted neighborhoods. Now, we host Neighborhood Improvement Days to provide volunteer labor and donated materials in fixing up homes and encouraging private reinvestment by surrounding owners. I'm proud of this effort and plan to promote its expansion going forward. Economic Development: Our Harbor Boulevard vision has produced 3,000 new hotel rooms adding $12 million each year to the City's general fund. The future includes more hotels, a themed water park, and destination dining and entertainment venues. However, California's state government is in budget crisis. Without experienced leadership on our City Council, our economic development funds could be taken and these projects halted. I will not let that happen. I have the best interests of Garden Grove deep at heart and hope I have earned your vote this November. |
