Candidate for
Council Member; City of Garden Grove

On May 10, 2011, City Planning Commission Chairperson, Kris Beard, was appointed to the Garden Grove City Council. He had formerly served on the City's Neighborhood Improvement and Conservation Commission and the Administrative Board of Appeals, in addition to performing various volunteer services for the City and charitable work throughout the community.

Councilman Beard holds a BA in Political Science from UC Santa Cruz and has studied and done graduate work in public administration at California State University, Long Beach.

In 1981, Councilman Beard began his professional career in public service as an Administrative Intern with the City of Garden Grove. In 1982 while living in the City of Signal Hill, he was elected to the position of City Clerk. He was subsequently re-elected twice. For close to 30 years, Councilman Beard has worked for the County of Orange. He currently works as an Administrative Manager for the OC Community Resources Department.

Active in the community, Councilman Beard is a member of the Elks Club, Garden Grove Sister City Association, Boy Scouts of America/Friends of Scouting, Pacifica High School Swim Boosters, and the Pacifical High School Parent Teachers Association. He is also an alumni of the Volunteers-In-Service-To-America Alumni Association and the UC Santa Cruz Alumni Association. In the past, Councilman Beard has held memberships in the City Clerk's Association, American Society of Public Administration and the Orange Coast Optimists.

A Garden Grove resident since 1992, Councilman Beard has been married for over 21 years to Sheryl, a lifelong Garden Grove resident and local elementary school teacher. They enjoy family life in Garden Grove and take great pride in raising their three teenage sons, all of whom are Eagle Scouts.
