This provides a list of all the resources Marina can use for economic development and improving our quality of life.
We Have All the Resources We Need to Take Care of Ourselves.
The only thing stopping us - is us!
- We have our own water.
- We have amazing people doing very good things for our community, separate from City Hall.
- We have our own airport. It is an economic engine all by itself.
- We have a California State University. We share facilities, mentors, and volunteers. We are already a university town.
- We have our own state beach with the protection of the National Marine Sanctuary.
- We have location, location, location on the Monterey Bay.
- We are the gateway to millions of visitors to the Monterey Peninsula each year.
- We have land that is preserved on the National Monument; 14,000 acres of open space.
- We have land to develop. All of the Marina developments on the Ft. Ord lands are converting only the acres covered with the crumbling buildings and old underground infrastructure. These lands were given to us so we could build a sustainable economic base to replace the loss of the military base. The blight goes away as fast as we are able to work with developers who can absorb the large cost of de-construction.
It is the job of the City Council to set the priorities for the City and raise revenues to pay for essential City services. For the past 4 years the City Council has been under the leadership of a Council Majority that has been following a no-growth agenda. The development improvements that we see are all at the Dunes which was under a development contract before this Council Majority took office. Otherwise we have made no progress in removing the crumbling buildings on the Ft. Ord properties in 4 years. In addition, we have not completed any other projects that bring in new revenues. We need to get back on track to becoming self-sufficient.
I would very much like to have an opportunity to develop a financial plan for Marina.
Please vote for me and join me in casting your second vote for Jim Ford.
Only together can we change the dynamics of the Council Majority. We can do this.
