Reduce Gang Violence Through Strengthening Public Safety and Communication.

By David "Dave" Pacheco

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Seaside

This information is provided by the candidate
Gang Violence is a serious community concern that can be reduced by being pro active, honest and by addressing employment issues, family needs and youth programs.
Gang violence is becoming an increasing concern to the residents of Seaside. I believe we need a strong public safety department that has open communication with the public, improved employment for Seaside residents and a strong recreation program for youth and families that include an active Police Athletic League and community program.

Community policing is a valuable tool in reducing gang violence. Reaching inward to the residents in their businesses, churches and homes will create a sense of trust and open communication with police. This will allow residents to feel safer in providing more information related to incidences in their neighborhoods and city.

The City of Seaside has a very good Police Chief. We need to do our utmost to provide the resources for her to effectively lead the department. The police department needs to be creative in finding solutions, reaching out to the community and being pro active in dealing with the community and gang violence.

The employees of the City of Seaside need to play a role in reducing gang violence through information that they can provide. Seaside police needs improved public relations with the whole community, responding immediately and effectively to the residents no matter what the issue. Honesty and sincerity in our communication with all residents is paramount.
