|
My name is: Leonard McNeil My age is: 67 My occupation is: Political Science Professor Education and Qualifications: I am joining incumbents Cecilia Valdez and Kathy Chao-Rothberg in campaigning for another city council term. My campaign theme is, "Working for the Common Good." I am emphasizing experience, leadership and vision. I bring 12 years of city council experience, 30 years in the non-profit sector and a Master's in Political Science from San Francisco State University. I teach Political Science at Contra Costa College. I have supported several important projects that have improved the quality of life in San Pablo: a community center at Helms Middle School, Wanlass Park as open space development, a new West County Health Center, economic and workforce development through a new Walgreens, Las Montanas, Auto Zone, Molcasalsa and Ross. I supported a temporary sales tax increase to support public safety, youth programs and jobs for youth. There is currently a diverse San Pablo city council. I am proud to have voted to appoint the first Asian-American, Kathy Chao-Rothberg to the city council. The city council has developed a priority work plan that includes partnering with community-based organizations to provide programs and services, improving education by supporting San Pablo community schools in collaboration with the school district and county, working with the San Pablo Economic Development Corporation to support the small business community, implementing an obesity prevention and intervention initiative with health and wellness partners and helping to involve our foreign-born population to become civically engaged. I will do my best to honor your support. More information about my platform is available at http://www.mcneilactivism.org. |
