Chabot Elementary School is one of the highest-achieving elementary schools in Oakland, with a strong record of ongoing progress for all student groups. The school serves 480 children from 22 zip codes in Oakland and Berkeley.

Long-Range Planning Committee

The Long Range Planning Committee advises the Principal and PTA on upcoming issues that will affect the school. One of the most active committees at the school, since 2006, the Long Range Planning Committee has been working on how to replace the 18 temporary classrooms on the campus, some of which have been there since the 1940s. For the past year, the group has been working with an architect team hired by the School District to design a $13.5 million new building and yard. Ms. London facilitates the meetings and interactions between this committee of about 25 professionals and the architects, engineers, school district officials, PTA, and Principal. She ensures that there is adequate opportunity for all opinions to be expressed, and that the design process addresses key issues and priorities, as well as provides opportunities for community input, especially from the neighbors.

Chabot: Way to Grow Special Fund Campaign Chair, 2007

In 2007, Ms. London realized that the budget for the new building project would not be adequate to address all the needs at the school. She proposed that the PTA establish a special reserve fund, and that it provide seed money for a fundraising campaign targeted at community members and alumni of the 80-year old school. There is now a team of 10 marketing, outreach, design, and fundraising professionals working to implement this campaign. Given revisions to the new building project, due to cost issues identified in the design process, this special fund will likely provide all play equipment and landscaping for the yard, as well as other features the school community will identify as the project moves forward.

Save the Bay is the oldest and largest membership organization working exclusively to protect, restore and celebrate San Francisco Bay. During the time that Ms. London has served on the Board, Save the Bay's budget has nearly doubled, as has the organization's staff. During this time, Save the Bay has established an award-winning experiential education program that has taken 8,000 middle and high-school students out on the Bay. Other achievements during this time include: engaging thousands of community members of all ages in restoring wetlands; ensuring the sale of 20,000 acres of salt pond in the South Bay to the State for return to wetlands; preventing the San Francisco Airport from filling in nearly two miles of Bay to build new runways.

Women Energy Associates, San Francisco, CA (2005 - present)

Board Member Women Energy Associates is a volunteer-led, non-profit professional organization in the San Francisco area. As a board member, Ms. London helps plan educational programs and reach out to program participants.

Temple Beth Abraham, Oakland, California (2000 - present)

Annual Schools Auction, 2003 - 2004 Ms. London helped build the auction into a key fundraising event for the preschool and Hebrew school.

Wetlands Day Coordinator, 2001 - present Every year, working with Save the Bay, Ms. London coordinates a wetlands restoration day for the synagogue at the Martin Luther King Regional Shoreline Park in Oakland. The event typically draws 80 synagogue members, ranging from toddlers to seniors.
