Despite these tough fiscal times, 20 of Fremont's public schools have been recognized as award-winning schools over the past 4 years. This year alone, 7 sites were designated as Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Education. As a parent, I know strong schools create strong cities. That's why the City Council needs to support Fremont Unified by ensuring an open line of communication and a true partnership with the district. We should pool the resources of our two biggest agencies + the city and the school district + to operate more efficiently and save precious dollars. We must ensure our schools, parks and city facilities can be better utilized as shared resources by the community. As Councilmember, I'll make sure that our schools remain safe centers of learning by fighting to keep the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program in the district. Above all, as elected leaders, we need to be vocal advocates at all times when it comes to ensuring adequate school funding in this state.
