I have lived in the area that makes up the Twin Rivers District since 1989. My two, now-grown, children attended Harmon Johnson elementary school, Rio Tierra Junior High and Grant High. My husband and I have two foster children who attend a local public school in the Twin Rivers District.
I was always involved in my children's schools and community events. In 1998, I was elected to the Grant Joint Union High School Governing Board of trustees with support from the teacher's union and local elected officials who were concerned that the Grant District had misplaced priorities. During my tenure on the Grant Board, we balanced the budget; hired a new superintendent; aligned curriculum with technology; passed two bonds and built a new junior high.
While serving on the Grant Board, I decided to retire from the California Department of Transporation where I worked on public transit issues and returned to school to become a special education teacher. I currently work with emotinally disturbed teen boys.
