Since moving to Torrance 25 years ago, Terry Furey and her husband Pat, have been continuously involved in the Torrance community. They will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary with her husband, having raised two children, Sunday and Patrick, both of whom attended Torrance public schools. Both of their grandchildren are also enrolled in Torrance Unified.

Terry is a job developer for the Torrance Unified School District, where she has worked for more than 22 years. She currently assists South and West High students who are in various special education programs to find employment in our community. She has assisted 1000's of Torrance students in job placement with 100's of local South Bay companies. Prior to serving as a job developer, Terry was an instructional assistant at Yukon and Carr Elementary Schools and a special education paraeducator at South High School.

Terry is also one of the organizers and a Vice-President of California School Employees Association, Chapter 845 - the bargaining unit for Torrance Paraeducators. She currently represents Region 92 (Torrance Unified, Redondo Beach Unified and Palos Verdes Unified) in the CSEA Political Action Committee.

Terry is a long-time Torrance Education Foundation board member, and has been intimately involved in fundraising efforts that directly benefit the children who attend Torrance public schools. In 2007 she and her husband were the recipients of the James R. Armstrong Community Leadership Award in recognition of their contributions to Torrance schools and the community. In addition, they are both past recipients of the Honorary Service Award presented by the Parent Teachers Association for their service to our schools. Terry is a former President of the Yukon Elementary and Magruder Middle School PTA's, and a Board Member of the PTO at the California Academy of Mathematics and Science.

She has been active in her local community too, serving as a Board Member of the North Torrance Homeowners Association for 16 years, including many years as 1st Vice-President.

Terry is a LIFELONG Democrat, and a longtime member of the League of Women Voters and the Torrance Democratic Club. She is also a member of the Torrance Sister City Association, Torrance Rose Float Association, Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation, Friends of Madrona Marsh, and the Western Museum of Flight.
