The purpose of politics and government is to regulate society in ways that promote the greatest well-being of the community. Education, health care, rewarding jobs, and a sustainable environment are all things that should be promoted by government with a particular eye to aiding the less advantaged in our society. The role of the political office holder is to accomplish this and put aside considerations of ego and personal gain.
