PCH Safety Driving on PCH is one of the most dangerous things we do. Working with CalTrans, Malibu must act to get more center dividers, right hand turn lanes, extended left hand turn lanes, and safety resources to make PCH safer for the 13,000+ residents and 13,000,000+ visitors traveling on this highway regularly. Wastewater One of the reasons Malibu became a city is to prevent a sewer because centralized wastewater paves the way for development. Malibu's commitment to the environment should require all existing On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems to be evaluated, monitored, and maintained or city wide water monitoring should be implemented. Our current infrastructure of localized OSWTS is better suited to our geography and prevents catastrophic sewage spills. Water System Our District 29 water system is outdated and needs upgrades. On step is to solidify a water wheeling agreement for a looped system tied into Las Virgenes Water District over Encinal. While this is an expensive project, it will prevent us from running out of water when fighting fire as happened in the 1993 fire where we lost nearly 700+ structures and three lives. Fire Fire and natural disasters are seemingly inevitable to our small beach community. When a wildfire is ramped up by dry weather and strong offshore winds, it can get out of control and will burn from he mountains to the ocean historically taking homes and lives with it. While we are so fortunate to have the hard work of the men and women of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, as citizens, we must be responsible by clearing brush and having an emergency plans with our fellow neighbors. View Restoration People spend millions of dollars to buy homes with views. These views must be restored and preserved moving forward. Malibu School District Malibu must find a way to make it feasible to get our own school district. This will allow for local control and more importantly our youth will receive a higher level of education inspiring them to make a positive difference in our future. Local Businesses Its unfortunate Malibu has lost some of the local retailers that have contributed so much to the Malibu community and its history. As citizen's, we have a choice to shop wherever we choose. We need stores that serve our community. If we pass a diversification ordinance it must be revisited and evaluated regularly. As a Council Member, I will continue to support local businesses, preserve existing ones, and promote new locally owned and operated businesses. Lagoon Project The city council should not support the project in its current state. The city should pressure the state agencies funding the project to do a thorough review of the project and alternatives should be considered before any bulldozer moves dirt. Our communities voice must be heard when projects happen on our soil. |
