I am often defined by my life story. I'm an immigrant from India who came to this country when I was seven years old. I'm the daughter of a nurse. I'm the mother of an amazing 9 year old son. I'm a woman with a Doctorate in Planning. I'm the former President of the Long Beach School Board. I'm the current Vice Mayor and City Councilmember representing the Second District.

I define myself by my values. I embrace diversity because it's what makes my family and my community beautiful to me. I respect public service employees like nurses, teachers, firefighters and police officers because I have witnessed the sacrifices they make in order to keep our community strong. I value education because I've learned firsthand that access to higher education changes lives. And I believe in the power of partnerships because through strategic alliances we've made our city's air cleaner, our streets safer, our kids healthier, our local businesses more successful and our neighborhoods greener.
