I am a Cincinnati native who graduated from Princeton High School. After graduating, I attended Miami University, where I earned degrees in Political Science and Mass Communication and a minor in Business Legal Studies. I received the President's Distinguished Service Award from Miami, the highest honor given to a student. While at Miami, I served on the Academic Policy Committee of the University Senate, as a Student Court Justice, and was recognized as a Scholar-Leader. After graduating from college, I moved to Los Angeles to work in Consumer Promotions, and then returned to Cincinnati to attend The University of Cincinnati College of Law, where I served as an Executive Member of the Moot Court Board, Senior Articles Editor of the Human Rights Quarterly, and Co-Chair of the Student Legal Education Committee. I was also inducted into the Order of the Barristers and received the "Spirit of the Community" Award. During law school, I worked as a Summer Associate with Baker & Hostetler LLP and Frost Brown Todd LLC. After graduating, I worked as an Associate with Frost Brown Todd LLC and later Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL. In 2007, I returned to Miami University to develop and direct the university's first Pre-Law Program. Now in its fourth year, the program is one of the most comprehensive pre-law programs in the country. I am a true Cincinnati success story. I grew up in Lincoln Heights, was the first in her family to graduate from college, became a lawyer, and have committed to giving back. Affectionately referred to as "Ms. Cincinnati," by my friends and colleagues, I take pride in welcoming newcomers to the city and am committed to helping this city reach its full potential. I am a positive example for all those who refuse to be limited by their circumstances. I exemplify the motto, "To whom much is given, much is expected" and have dedicated my life to service. I have volunteered with many organizations, and currently serve on the boards of the YWCA, Urban League, Charter Committee, and MOSAIC Culture, and on the Curriculum Committee of the Summer Work Experience in Law (SWEL) program. I am also a member of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Links, Inc. Previously, I served as a board member with the Lincoln Heights Community Improvement Corporation, The Bankers Club, and Dress for Success. I also served on the Community Advisory Council for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. In 2005, at age 27, I was recognized as one of the Business Courier's Forty under 40 and a YWCA Rising Star. In 2009, I completed the YWCA Rising Star Board Leadership Program. This past year, I graduated from the Urban League's African-American Leadership Development Program. I have also led several efforts of a political nature. For four years, I served as the Social Action Chair for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter, where I organized the first Delta Days at City Hall event, co-hosted a Mayoral Candidates Forum, organized several GOTV efforts, and drafted a resolution, which was later adopted by the national chapter, to raise awareness about the child slaves ("restavecs") in Haiti. I also served on the Advisory Board for Northern Kentucky University's Advancing Women in Political Leadership project and completed the White House Project's Women Ohio Go Run Political Leadership Training program. |
