This information is provided by the candidate |
BioI am a native Cincinnatian and have lived in Delhi Township for more than 17 years. I am 1988 Graduate of the College of Mt. St. Joseph with a Baccalaureate of Science in Finance/Accounting, and am a Certified Government Financial Manager. I am also a Graduate of Seton High School. I have been employed by the City of Cincinnati for over 23 years; I am currently employed under the appointing authority of the Cincinnati Park Board. I am at present and have been married for 20 years to my husband Jeff and we have been blessed with three children: Louis - 19; Max - 15; and Caroline - 10. Currently, I serve as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the City of Cincinnati's Park Board and I accepted the appointment to Parks in July 2000. I serve under the policy direction of a five-member Board called the Board of Park Commissioners (hereafter the Cincinnati Park Board) and the Director of Parks. As CFO, I am directly responsible for managing all of the finances related to the over 5,000 acres or 10% of the city's public green space which includes the administration of over 150 parcels of land in and outside the City of Cincinnati, infrastructure management of 121 facilities and structures, 52 play areas, 60 miles of public trails, 80,000 street trees in the public right of way, environmental science education, the Krohn Conservatory, management of over 100 pieces of public Art in the parks, and park programming. Moreover, I directly managed and am responsible for a $20 million dollar budget that includes both operating and capital. Listed below are some on the core duties I provide to the Park Board:
Fiscal Management Financial Reporting In addition to the above, I also voluntarily serve as the CFO of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation. The Parks Foundation is comprised of 53 very influential and prominent civic and corporate leaders and the mission of the Parks Foundation is to provide advocacy for the Cincinnati Park system and to serve as the fund raising arm of the Park Board. Other past work experiences include: Financial Manager for the City of Cincinnati's Facility Management Division where I directly managed and was responsible for a $10 million dollar budget that included both operating and capital, I also managed the Centennial II Facility through a contractor; this building had an annual budget of more than $1,000,000; I worked as an Accountant with the City's Finance Department, Accounts and Audits Division, for over seven years and while I was in Finance I was responsible for compiling monthly financial statements, special projects, and the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report for Retirement, Property Management, General Fixed Asset Account Group, and prepared the Tentative Tax Budget. I began my career with the City as an Income Tax Auditor in 1988. I have a very good understanding of government and the issues that government faces each year in bringing services to the taxpayers/citizens. Moreover, I understand that governments have a fiscal responsibility to provide a structurally balanced budget to the taxpayers. That where government can, it should partner with the private sector to leverage additional funds, services, and materials that enhance the community. Today, the dollar is stretched, gasoline is between $3 to $4 dollars a gallon, grocery prices are rising, as well as the cost of all other services, and residents resources have been impacted by job loss, reduced wages, and challenges to afford their housing, it is critical that the Township do everything possible to hold the line on increasing the residents burden. The residents of Delhi need to know that their tax dollars are being used in an efficient and effective manner and one which you know the return on your taxpayer dollars. Lastly, I have served on the Delhi Township Financial Advisory Board for the past two years and have a very good understanding of the Township Finances. It is important to know that the major issues facing Delhi right now are financial in nature. The Township will lose the Estate Tax funding and sustain a major reduction in the Local Government funding in the next few years. My experience with local government has prepared me to serve as a Trustee that will be focused on providing fiscally responsible decisions that will be mindful of the citizens while still delivering excellent services within the resources allotted.
