1. What services do you believe should be considered basic and essential for the Village?
|
Answer from Ralph M. Hoop:
Police and Fire Safety Services, Garbage collection, Public buildings and spaces reasonably maintained, Basic road maintenance, Basic village administration
Answer from Jenny Kilgore:
Safety is the first priority. This is provided for the village through a professional police department and a volunteer fire department. The committed staff of our service department maintains our streets and provide safe (& may I say delicious) water.

2. How would you balance the Village Budget?
|
Answer from Jenny Kilgore:
I promote Glendale at every opportunity.
Our village is financed through a portion of collected property taxes. To reduce the number of homes for sale or abandoned I will work closely with area realtors and school administration to promote Glendale as a desirable community in which to purchase a home.
As a member of council & chair of the utility committee I am responsible to collaborate with the service and water department managers to insure efficient, stream-lined budget. In this challenging economic environment hard decisions will need to be made; the value of most properties has been reduced but costs of materials and services continue to increase. Council is currently examining the 20112 budget in order to recoup a 20% deficit in funds.
My office will always be open to residents who wish to share concerns and suggestions.
Answer from Ralph M. Hoop:
Through a perfect storm of negative financial happenings, Glendale in 2012 will face a roughly 20% deficit in General Fund operation. During the first half of 2012 the new Mayor and Council must define what a 20% cut to each Village service would look like and present this to residents in Town Hall meetings and focus groups. Resident comments must guide the Mayor and Council on the amount of the property tax renewal that will appear on the Fall 2012 ballot for voter approval.

3. What actions will you take to support clean air?
|
Answer from Jenny Kilgore:
The Village of Glendale benefits from three commercial zones featuring fine dining and shops; we have no industry. We remain a Tree City USA with an aggressive curb-side 'tree planting' program. We consciously preserve green space.
Answer from Ralph M. Hoop:
Glendale prides itself on the preservation of green space and our tree canopy.
