? 1. What services do you believe should be considered basic and essential for the Village?

Answer from Jan Pastrick:

I believe that the most basic and essential services for the residents of the Village of Cleves include: police, fire and emergency medical services as well as street maintenance/snow removal. I feel that the Village does a good job providing these services--keeping Cleves a safe and secure community. However, elements that improve the quality of life for the residents of Cleves should be explored further, including: economic development; increased recreational and entertainment options; improvements to the infrastructure and hardscapes; open and transparent communications between the Village and residents.

Answer from Linda M. Haas:

Services, I believe that are basic and essential, are the police department, maintenance department, and the use of our park system.

Answer from Dawn M. Richardson:

Police and Fire protection for our residents. Maintenance to keep the Village safe and clean. A deep consideration of resident needs.

? 2. How would you balance the Village Budget?

Answer from Jan Pastrick:

I would balance the budget for the Village by analyzing spending versus income in all departments, pursuing non-traditional methods of funding to create additional resources, and critically analyzing the need versus cost of any proposed purchase/expenditure.

Answer from Linda M. Haas:

Since I am now heading the finance committee, there are areas where we could streamline services. Also, we should apply for more grants when they become available. As we look at balancing the budget, we must remember there are expenses to be paid to keep quality services in our Village.

Answer from Dawn M. Richardson:

Balance services to equal income.

? 3. What actions will you take to support clean air?

Answer from Linda M. Haas:

I will support federal and state initiatives that support clean air laws.

Answer from Dawn M. Richardson:

Public information.

Answer from Jan Pastrick:

I will continue to support the EPA's on-going monitoring of local businesses. Communication with the public is critical, especially in regards to the safety and security of the residents of Cleves.
