Daniel "Danny" Juarez has lived in and served the City of Hawthorne for more 35 years as a community volunteer, civic leader, family man and elected official.

Born in Los Angeles, he attended St. Vincent's Catholic School before his family relocated to the South Bay. He attended Will Rogers Middle School in Lawndale and then graduated from Lawndale High School where he was ranked #6 in his graduation class with a 4.0 GPA.

Danny earned his AA degree in computer science at El Camino College, and then attended Pepperdine University where he earned his BS in Administrative Science and MBA in business administration. He has also earned a Professional Designation in Government Contract Management from UCLA and is a registered ASQ Certified Quality Lead Assessor and Auditor.

He and his wife Stella moved to Hawthorne in 1976 and raised 3 children, Christina, Danny Jr., and Vincent. His wife is a product of St. Josephs School and Hawthorne High School. Stella works in the education field. Christina is in the real estate software business. Daniel Jr. works as a lineman and is in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 45. Vincent is in his senior year at the University of Arizona majoring in urban studies.

Since 1971 he has worked for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (formerly TRW Space & Electronics) performing a variety of services including business and financial management, auditing and compliance, project management and network and system administration and public relations. He celebrated his 40th year anniversary with the company in 2011.

Danny's community involvement began in 1976 when he began to coach and referee soccer in AYSO Region 21 Hawthorne. In addition to his coach/referee duties, he moved into the administration side at different levels of AYSO holding a variety of increasingly responsible positions including Region 21 Hawthorne Regional Commissioner, Beach Cities Area Director, Section One Coach Administrator, Area Auditor and National Management Instructor. He also started an annual VIP (Very Important Person) Friendship Festival for handicap soccer players and celebrated their 11 year anniversary.

He serves: as a charter member of the Hawthorne Parks & Recreation Foundation and newly formed Hawthorne Historical Society, of which he serves as Chief Financial Officer; as a former Chief Petitioner for Citizens for a Wiseburn Unified School District; as the Chief Financial Officer for the Wiseburn Education Foundation; as a Bond Oversight Committee Member for the Wiseburn School District; Strategic Planning Committee Member for the Da Vinci Charter Schools; as a member of the South Bay One-Stop Center's Continuous Improvement Program Advisory Committee; and since 1982 as an active supporter, Merit Badge Counselor, Past Post Advisor and Member of the Silver Beaver Selection Committee for the Boy Scouts of America.

Danny has also given of his time talents to benefit many philanthropic and service programs over the years including:

His desire to serve started at Lawndale High School. During his tenure he held the offices of Class President and Associated Student Body President and Vice-President. In 1981 he began his public service career as an elected Trustee of the Wiseburn School District and served as Clerk of the Board. After re-election, he served until 1993. In 1993, he ran for Hawthorne City Clerk and served in that capacity until 2005, winning re-election twice.

In 2007, Danny was elected to a four-year term on the Hawthorne City Council and was elected Mayor Pro Tem by his city council colleagues during 2009. He serves as the delegate to South Bay Cities Council of Governments and as a member of the Gardena Valley Democratic Club, Mexican-American Democratic Club and New Frontier Democratic Club.

Among his many awards and recognitions are:

  • West Basin Municipal Water District - Inaugural Water Reliability 2020 Medal for his voluntary participation in the program and for making water a priority for the residents and businesses of Hawthorne.
  • American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) - Area of the Year (3 consecutive years)
  • Bank of America Foundation - Foreign Language Award
  • Boy Scouts of America + Eagle Scout Award, Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award and William Spurgeon III Award
  • Centinela Valley Y MCA - Carr Fox Outstanding Service Award
  • City of Hawthorne - "Danny Juarez Day" Proclamation
  • Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce - Citizen of the Year, Ned Chaffee Volunteer of the Year Award, Volunteer in Youth Service Award
  • Hawthorne Imperial Lions Club/District 4-L3 - Community Leader of the Year (two different years)
  • Metropolitan Los Angeles YMCA - President's Award (3 consecutive years)
  • The Outstanding Americans Foundation - Who' Who of Outstanding Teenagers of America
  • South Bay Volunteer Center - Corporate Volunteer Award

Danny has a long list of accomplishments focusing from youth to seniors, from the environment to the infrastructure, and from reduction of bureaucracy to business development. As a long-time homeowner and community servant, Danny is committed to improving the quality life for both residents and businesses.
