Accountability, Transparency, OversightBy Susan BrooksCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Rancho Palos Verdes | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The City Government has refused to disclose vital information needed to make crucial financial decisions. There is no Transparency, and little oversight opportunity due to Council Majority dictates.Government Efficiency and Taxes Susan Brooks is a tax fighter and has been recognized for her efforts to make local government more effective and more efficient. During her prior term on the City Council, Susan helped turn a $2 million budget deficit into a surplus. She was awarded the "Good Governance Award" by The Reason Foundation for her leadership in privatizing park programs and cutting unnecessary spending. She opposes tax increases, opposes building an unnecessary new City Hall complex and wants to ensure that all staff costs are justified. The outgoing Council majority has effectively handed the keys to City Hall over to staff. As a result, since Susan left office over a decade ago, staff has nearly tripled, salaries, fees, pensions, the budget have all doubled. The one thing which remains the same? The population at 43,00. Vital Infrastructure needs have gone unmet in lieu of elaborate designs for unnecessary structures and special interest projects. Susan would like to see the new Council majority set realistic goals, conduct an onsight Performance Audit, and make necessary changes to effect a more efficient, responsive government for the people |
