David has lived in Swarthmore since 1993. He is married to Patricia Reilly, an Associate Professor of Art History at Swarthmore College and the Associate Provost of the College as of July 1, 2011. David's daughters attended Swarthmore Rutledge Elementary School and Strath Haven Middle School, and graduated from Strath Haven High School. David is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Swarthmore Community Center and a past President of ABC Strath Haven.

A partner at White and Williams LLP in Philadelphia, David's practice focuses on commercial litigation and reinsurance. He is a member of the firm's Executive Committee.

Before moving to Swarthmore, David was a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, serving in embassies abroad and at Foggy Bottom in Washington D.C. He has a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was Executive Editor of the Law Review, an MA from the University of Chicago, and a BA from the University of Notre Dame. David was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio.
