Legislative Reform

By Sid Michaels Kavulich

Candidate for State Representative; District 114

This information is provided by the candidate
Reducing spending, size of legislature, Constitutional Convention
Pennsylvanians continue to call for change in the way the Commonwealth is governed. I agree that we need to conduct legislative reform, but we must do so in a responsible manner. In reducing the size of state legislature, with many districts covering a wide geographical area, we must maintain adequate and just legislation for all citizens. The people of Pennsylvania are entitled to the same level of representation they now receive. We must reduce and monitor spending by the legislature. I am in favor of reimbursement only for actual expenses with proper documentation, which would provide open and transparent spending. Eliminating duplication of services would also result in reduced legislative spending. I favor a limited Constitutional Convention, where issues to be addressed are clearly defined. We must guard against manipulative abuses that can be a danger in convening a convention which would alter our constitution. Cost of a gathering of this magnitude must also be taken into consideration, especially at this time of economic distress in our Commonwealth.
