I was born and raised in San Francisco. My husband and I moved to the Coastside in 1972 with our two sons. Our two boys attended Cabrillo Schools from K - 12 grade. Attending El Granada Elementary School, Cunha Intermediate and HMB High School. We couldn't have asked for a better education for them. I began volunteering at El Granada when my oldest son, Scott, started school. I spent countless hours helping in the classroom and then served as a noon duty supervisor. Soon I was helping with Arts & Science Day by working in the workshops then I co-chaired the event two years in a row. I also served as PTA president for two years. I then became a Chapter One aide at Hatch School for a year before moving back to El Granada School as an instructional aide. I was hired as the school secretary and worked at EG for over six years in the office. I loved every minute of it! I was lucky enough to be hired by the Deputy Superintendent at the district office as her administrative secretary where I stayed for 20 years. The scope of my job varied and I took full ownership of a wide variety of duties with the full support of the Deputy Superintendent. I feel this is a very strong attribute of mine. Whenever I'm in charge of a task, it is always completed in a timely and accurate manner. During that time I became involved with the association representing the classified employees. I served as a negotiator for 20 years, vice-president for 2 years and then as president of the Chapter for 5 years. My last 4 years I worked directly under the Superintendent of Schools as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent. I have had many diverse and creative positions which challenged me and gave me a great sense of accomplishment. I was so fortunate to have wonderful supervisors who felt about and truly cared, not only about our students but our school district the same way I did. I never had a day when I didn't want to go to work. To me, this was a connection that said a lot about the quality of people who worked in Cabrillo. If it was a good working environment for the employee, it had to be great for the students! |
