Making our neighborhoods safe
We must work diligently to make our neighborhoods safe and welcoming. Chief Gascon's attempt to bring the department into compliance with CompStat is a good step in the right direction. Also, foot patrols in conjunction with police management and community input, stay away orders, surveillance cameras, exterior lighting requirements, enhanced penalties enforcement zones, would all have an impact. In addition, comprehensive community policing, neighborhood safe passage programs, such as, safe haven and safe escort programs, and strong enforcement of good neighborhood agreements with liquor stores, smoke shops, nightclubs, and social services that generate outdoor congregations of people are ways of making our neighborhoods safe.
