The Revival Begins Here

Teresa Duque's platform on how to bring about an economic revival and create jobs in District #10.

In regards to development for the Bayview/ Hunters' Point area:

I have been a long-time supporter of the Bayview/ Hunters' Point development as long as it has it continues to insure that local merchants, community leaders, union leaders, and local residents continue to be part of the constructive dialogue. I personally brought over 100 people from the Asian-American community to testify on behalf of the development of the area to City Hall. We also need to make sure that affordable housing and public transportation needs are met, much in the same way as Supervisor Sophie Maxwell has advocated for many years. With regards to labor contracts:

The City does best when it looks out for the best interests of its residents rather than special interests. The TIGER Projects to revitalize the infrastructure passed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama are helping to provide real jobs for people. We need to make sure that the city does more to protect the projects for working people. The local unions and workers of the district are best served by their local government when leaders advocate for jobs, rather than having outside groups dictate terms of development. We need a government that is both smart and sensible.

The classic definition of insanity is to do things repeatedly, and to expect different results. We need to start developing new policies to address the policies that face the community today:

• We need to generate revenue by promoting advertising in up-and-coming neighborhoods such as the Third Street Corridor, Portola Valley, and the Bayview/ Hunters' Point areas
• We need to impose a 5- year hiatus on additional food taxes, especially for local restaurants and "Mom & Pop" businesses
• There is an environmental fight to change the planned bridge over the estuary separating Bay View and Hunter's Point. The changes environmentalists will mean a more expensive bridge, and more importantly a longer commute for public transportation across the bridge, making the proposed community development less attractive to middle class who might consider moving there. We need a plan that is sensible for the community
• District #10 can become the "New Mission". This community can draw in the innovative entrepreneurs and to start the clubs, the cool cafes, the art studios, the star-up businesses, etc.
• We can make city government more friendly to turning empty lots/decrepit buildings into new condos and lofts.
