John McCann will bring proven Independent Leadership to the Sweetwater Union High School District by focusing on students' needs and achievements.

John McCann stands for Academic Excellence: As a parent of four children, John McCann will fight for high standards and work to give every student an opportunity to succeed. John McCann will set rigorous goals and strive for improved district SAT scores and Academic Performance Index scores which are currently below the County average.

John McCann stands for Safe Schools: John McCann will fight to make sure students are in a safe learning environment. As a Councilmember, John McCann provided funding for full-time sworn police officers at our schools. That is why the Chula Vista Police Officers and Chula Vista Firefighters Endorse John McCann.

John McCann stands for Fiscal Responsibility: John McCann will require a balanced budget for the District and ensure that District Bond money is spent wisely.

John McCann stands for Resources in the Classroom: John McCann will work to save teaching and classroom positions while cutting administrative overhead. John McCann will focus resources in the classroom where it is needed most to maximize student success.

John McCann is a lifelong resident of the South Bay and a father of four children. John McCann attended Junior High and High School in the Sweetwater Union High School District. John McCann graduated with Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Economics from San Diego State University and is a successful businessman. John McCann was elected decisively to two terms as a City Councilmember. John McCann recently returned from an active duty tour in Iraq with the United States Navy. John McCann taught at Sweetwater District Adult Schools and at Southwestern College. John McCann has been an outstanding volunteer and has served on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, AYSO soccer and is a member of the Kiwanis club.
