Full Biography for Robert "Bob" Nunez

Bob Nuņez, Retired Superintendent, has served in public education for 40 years. He has been a classified employee, in a number of different classifications, as well as a certificated employee and an administrator including Superintendent. His agenda is to improve student achievement and reduce the dropout rate, provide for fiscal stability and accountability, and preserve a safe learning environment. He supports Measure A + the Santa Clara County Healthy Kids Ballot measure and Measure I + the East Side Union High School District Parcel tax. The passage of these measures along with a focus on academic rigor will allow assure parents that their children can experience the American Dream. Students will be prepared to attend college, secure good employment and be contributing members of their community. Mr. Nuņez recently completed four years as Superintendent of one of the largest school districts in Northern California. During his tenure the district was fiscally solvent and test scores increased. Programs for At-Risk students were added to all high school grade levels. New College bound programs, in partnership with feeder districts and community colleges were also added to the districts' instructional program offerings. Mr. Nuņez served on the following committees: Mayor's Gang Task Force; Urban Education Committee for ACSA (Association of California School Administrators); Council of Urban Boards of Education (National School Boards Association); Large Urban School Districts Superintendents Council. Mr. Nuņez believes that involvement in the community is necessary to build a bridge and open up avenues of communication between the Superintendent and the larger school community. Nightly, he attended district academic, performing arts and athletic events to demonstrate his commitment to the students, parents and community. He would take this time to share the individual successes of students while at the same time gathering input from parents on community needs. Mr. Nuņez continues in his commitment to the East Side by serving on the Santa Clara County Juvenile Justice Commission, Alum Rock Counseling Center Board, The San Jose Conservation Corps Board, and is regularly in attendance at La Raza Roundtable de California meetings and represents La Raza Roundtable de California at Kids in Common. Mr. Nuņez received his AA degree in Data Processing from Fullerton Community College; his BA in Business Administration from California State University + Fullerton; his MA in Public Administration from California State University + Long Beach and his EdD/ABD in Educational Administration from United States International University + San Diego. In his 40 years in public education he has served in a number of classified positions, certificated positions and administrative positions up to and including Superintendent. The East Side of San Jose has become home to Mr. Nuņez. He wants to continue contributing to the success of students on the East Side by ensuring that they receive a quality high school education and are prepared to enter college or career/technical education programs and go on to be contributing members of their community. |
