Due to the economic recession, the city of Hemet is experiencing the need to cut city expenditures and obtain concessions from the city employees to balance the budget.
Everybody involve in the administration and operation of the city of Hemet need to make salary and benefit concessions in order for the city to continue offering the required services to the citizens of the community. I am of the opinion that once all the required employee concessions and structural expenditures have been had and if there still exist a need for revenue to balance the budget, then I will support bringing to the voters the opportunity to vote on a specific .5% sales tax to fund the operational cost of the library, the senior citizen center and to create recreational opportunities for the citizens of the community. The sales tax that I am talking about could only be used for a specific purpose and would have a sunset date of 5 years. That means that it would be cancel after five years. This opinion would give the city of Hemet the time and opportunity to get their budget situation in order and accumulate reserves in the General Fund for emergencies and for city economic development purposes . I believe that all of us that has a stake in the health, safety and success of the city need to contribute to the success of the administration of the city. A five percent sales tax increase would amount to 5 cents for every 10 dollars of purchase. The economic recession requires personal sacrifice from all of us. We are all in these together as a community and working together we can get pass this recession.
