Bob has strong support for Education & Job Creation. Balance City Budget & Business Friendly are his top priorities.Education - I would allow the Tustin Unified School District to proceed with their development plans for Tustin High School and Heritage Elementary School. As an educator, I appreciate that these schools obtained state funding to expand, and I strongly favor allowing them to proceed. I believe that both the city and the school district are acting in good faith in support of the people of Tustin, and the solution is for either side (it doesn't matter which) to yield to the other. As a member of City Council, I would lead the city to stand down to allow the project to proceed. Fiscal Responsibility - I believe Tustin's biggest challenge is to maintain basic services (such as education, police and fire services, and roads and utilities) at acceptable levels until the economy recovers. I believe we can achieve this through a combination of 1) carefully reviewing our budget (including salaries as well as subcontracted services and material purchases) to save money, and 2) helping our local governmental services to acquire state and federal grants. Business-Friendly - I believe that City Council exists to serve the community, rather than to serve as just another layer of bureaucratic power. This means I believe City Council should be on the side of local businesses (as well as our schools!), helping them through the permitting process, rather than blocking them until they guess some sort of magic City Hall password. Respectable Representation - There is something to be said for having elected representatives that you would actually trust to do the right thing, even if they may disagree with you on specific topics. Politics tends to select for strong personalities, regardless of levels of ethics. In contrast, my guiding principles include respectfully listening to opposing viewpoints and maintaining a sense of ethics, rather than building up a power base to serve my personal interests. Environment - I believe that conservation is not bad for business and is not bad for Tustin's finances. As an entrepreneur, I sought a partnership with regional water districts to produce a product that help our families conserve water. As a City Councilman, I would work to save taxpayer money by saving water, utilizing the technology and working more efficiency. |
