These are the reasons why I am running for Mayor of Salinas:

I was born in Salinas in 1961 and attended public schools in Salinas. I am a 1980 graduate of North salinas High School. I am a 1983 graduate of hartnell College. I was a student-intern with United Cerebral Palsy association of Northern California. I am a 1985 graduate of Sacramento State with a B.A. Degree in Government. I work with the Special Kids Crusade. My postion is Inclusion Specialist. I work with special needs children at the Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County. I was elected to the Hartnell College Board of Trustees in 2003, and re-elected in 2007.

The first priority must be public safety. Since 2008, there have been 67 murders in Salinas. There is a crisis of gang violence in Salinas. The City of Salinas needs more police officers. We are going to take back the streets from violent gangs. We are going to help people take back their neighborhoods from violent gangs. There needs to be more neigborhood watch groups all over Salinas. It is an important duty of government to ensure the safety of its citizens and residents.

We need job programs to put people back to work. We need to prepare young people for a better life. Jobs are a much better alternative than joining a gang. People need decent-waged jobs. We need to encourage businesses to come to Salinas. We need to eliminate high-density housing.

Secondly, we have the youngest population in Monterey County right here in Salinas. We are going to have more recreational programs for our young people. Sherwood Hall will be used more often for our young people. We need to keep young people out of harm`s way. We need to bring back professional baseball to Salinas. We need to bring professional soccer to Salinas.

We are Salinas!
