Councilmember; City of Salinas; District 3

Being a respected politician needs to be earned. When constituents call, it is imperative to respond quickly and with commitment to make every attempt to resolve the issues of concern. As an elected official and policy maker, the job enables me to have direct contact with city departments responsible to serve our citizens as expeditiously as possible. With a lean but efficient workforce, our employees have proven to fastidiously respond to the needs of our community. In eight years, I have been particularly impressed by the quality of service by our City of Salinas employees. Hopefully, your concerns have been addressed satisfactorily. Please don't hesitate to let me know if this has not been the case.

A successful elected public official should be both proven and visionary. Just a few examples of the successes of this council include: 2000 new business licenses processed, 3000 new trees planted, six miles of sewer pipes upgraded and repaired, three libraries totally renovated, Twin Creeks Golf Course completed, a new Salinas Animal Shelter built, William Ranch Fire Station completed, five new fire engines purchased, School Resource Officer placed in every high school and middle school, 1500 sidewalks repaired, park equipment replaced and added, recreation programs provided, professional web site implemented, and over 90% of the city streets repaved.

Partnering with the Salinas Aquatics Club built a new public competitive swimming pool, approved a multi-plex theater downtown,renovated a daycare center at the previous Employee Development Building, General Plan finalized with emphasis on affordable housing, new industrial land added to the land designation, the advancement of the Caltrains to Salinas from Gilroy, continued medical offices relocated to rejuvenate Abbott Street, financial allocations from the federal government to advance the Intermodal Transportation System; annexed 220 acres for agricultural industrial expansion; approved the renewal and renovation of property for the Alisal Market Place project.

With the long list of accomplishments the City Council and City employees have completed, more challenges lie ahead that will be addressed with the same determination. Measure "V" has given the City an opportunity to protect city services to be potentially cut by the drastic State takeaways that plagued the City for six years.

As you can see, a dedicated, experienced, and committed person needs to be in the position of City Council. Hopefully, you have confidence in my continued ability and energy to advance the policies and goals of the City Council to complete the above mentioned projects.
