Letter of Support from Marilyn Watson, Campaign ManagerBy Terri WilliamsonCandidate for Council Member; City of Pleasant Hill | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I first met Terri at the Pleasant Hill High School (PHHS) library in 1980 after Mount Diablo School District announced it would close PHHS. She was the person who led the legal effort to prevent that closure. I became co-chair of the PH Unification Committee to form a separate school district. Neither of those efforts succeeded, but we developed a bond and vision that involved schools and community from that day to this. We were two founders of the group Pleasant Hill Citizens for Responsible Growth that forced the City Council to reverse the re-zoning of PHHS from 1 million square feet of office space to "residential". That rezoning prevented MDUSD from selling the school: High density office zoning would have brought in a lot of money; residential would not. Then PHCRG wrote and passed a ballot initiative + Measure B + which prevented high-rise, high density office buildings in the City and preserved neighborhoods. "B" is responsible for the Downtown we enjoy today, AND.....when PHHS was needed again, it was available to be opened as PH Middle School. Her vision for the City continues. She's amazingly bright and, after all these years, still does her homework and is knowledgeable about all issues facing the City. Most of all, she listens, and fights to keep Pleasant Hill "pleasant". The current council functions more harmoniously than any council I've ever seen. They may not always agree, but the current atmosphere of civility and respect is unprecedented. Thank you for your support Marilyn Watson, Campaign Manager |
