Martinez is a unique place, a city of beauty, grace and spirit. Here one finds tranquility, friendly residents, security, effective schools, lush open spaces, and historic neighborhoods. Such a place needs government that works with residents to maintain that uniqueness. Martinez thrives when its neighborhoods and residents are put first. Unfortunately, that's not the agenda of our current city council. The current council is set on an agenda to pursue annexation, high-density housing and accelerated urbanization - even subsidizing it with giveaways to developers and property owners, which will have negative impacts on our schools, our services, our neighborhoods, and our unique quality of life. I don't want that for my community! I am running for city council to restore balance and transparency to our city's governance. For over thirty years, in elected and appointed office, I have served the families and children of Martinez. In my decade of service as a member of the Martinez School Board test scores have risen and our schools have provided safe and nurturing learning environments. We have created a nationally recognized education program that ensures that all students, regardless of circumstance or learning style, have the tools they need to thrive. I am committed to returning Martinez to open, responsive government that serves everyone, not just special interests. Planning for our future should be about more than high-density housing and big box stores. To preserve our community we must reject irresponsible growth that threatens our neighborhoods and reject decisions that allow permanent open spaces to be developed. Responsible growth means revitalizing all parts of our City by first repairing and maintaining our streets and sewers, supporting beautification projects, and restoring our Marina before approving projects that destroy our unique character and reduce property values. Please join me in making our City's government more responsive to the people. |
