While there, they helped to reconstruct homes and businesses. "Seeing the devastation of the area, I'll never forget it. But the resilency those folks displayed in fighting back and rebuilding, I'll never forget that either." As San Carlos' mayor, Matt hosted the Mayor's Family Fun Ride to raise funds for the rebuilding effort. An Athlete Dedicated to the sport of wrestling even after college, Matt coached at various high schools, including Fairview HS in Boulder, Co; Sunset HS in Hayward, Gunn HS in Palo Alto, and Burlingame HS here on the peninsula. Matt also volunteered at Skyline College under coach Keith Spataro, and at Stanford University under coaches Chris Horpel, Steve Buddie and Kerry McCoy. "What is most satisfying from all those years of coaching, is hearing from the kids, who are now grown men; so often they attribute their success in life to lessons learned from wrestling!" Matt is also a cycling enthusiast, both road and trail, and he enjoys running, also on the trail. Other Organizations Other organizations which Matt has served or been associated with include: American Institute of Building Design (AIBD), Golden Gate Chapter President; Barnabas Counseling Center in San Mateo, board member; San Mateo First Presbyterian Church, deacon; the San Carlos LIONS Club; San Carlos Healthy Cities tutor.
