Howard Epstein, a native San Franciscan, was educated in the public school system, graduating from George Washington High School. He received his BA in business with emphasis in marketing from San Francisco State College in 1971. Howard's business career has been spent in ownership, executive and managerial positions with small business firms. In 1971 he was promoted to the position of office manager of the Ideal Paint Co. where he had been working part time since 1966. From 1977 to 1991 he was Vice President/General Manager of American/Brenner Wholesale. During that time Howard was active in trade organizations associated with the sanitary supply industry. He was treasurer of the Northern California Sanitary Suppliers, an organization of about 50 members, in 1984 and 1985. In 1984 he was elected vice president/president elect of the Sanitary Supply Wholesales Association, a nation organization of about 100 members firms for the 1984 and 1985 terms. In 1992 he joined American Industrial Supply as operations manager. In November 1996 Howard and his business partner formed E & A Acquisition Corp. for the purpose of purchasing Michael's Rentals, where he served as chief financial officer. Howard has been active in politics since 1994. In November 1994 he was elected to a two-year term as president of the Richmond District Republican Club. In November 1995 he was elected to fill a vacant seat on the San Francisco Republican County Central Committee SFGOP). He was elected to the SFGOP in 1996 and reelected in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008. Howard has been a candidate for State Assembly in the 12th District in 2000, 2002 and 2004. . Currently Howard is the SFGOP Chairman. He has served as Vice Chair/Communications, Treasurer and Vice Chair/Finance of the SFGOP, 3rd Vice Chair of the San Mateo Republican Party, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the California Republican Party. He is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Small Property Owners of San Francisco, The Small Property Owners of San Francisco Institute, and the Northern California Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition He is a past member of the Board of Directors Lincoln Club of Northern California, having served 6 years and the San Francisco Taxpayers Union. In 2005 he was San Francisco Chairman of the Governor's Special Election. He was a member of the San Francisco Leadership for Bush/Cheney 2004, Bill Simon for Governor San Francisco steering committee and was a member of the San Francisco leadership and director of phone bands for Bush/Cheney 2000. In 1998 he served on the San Francisco coordinating council for the Dan Lungren campaign. In 1996 he was San Francisco County co-chair for Dole/Kemp 96. |
