Political Philosophy for Jeff Olson
Candidate for |

|
On June 8th, 2010, for the first time in 25 years, San Diego County voters will be called upon to elect a new Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk. My name is Jeff Olson and I am a candidate for this office. I am uniquely qualified due to my 20 years of experience in the Assessor's office and my proven commitment to protecting the rights of taxpayers. The office of San Diego County Assessor is very different from other elected positions. This office is responsible for providing services to all of San Diego County. This includes 18 incorporated cities and all of the unincorporated communities; from Imperial Beach and San Ysidro in the south, Oceanside and Fallbrook in the north, El Cajon, Alpine, and Borrego Springs in the east, and all areas in between. All registered voters in San Diego County can vote for the San Diego County Assessor. Unlike most other elected offices, the duties that we at the Assessor's office perform and the services that we provide are technical in nature. California voters and our State Legislature have established guidelines that the Assessor's office must follow. It is vitally important to elect a candidate with experience performing the technical job of County Assessor. I began my career at the Assessor's office in 1990 as a Property Assessment Specialist. In my current position as the Assessor's Chief of Assessment Services, I am responsible for providing property tax reductions benefiting homeowners, disabled veterans, seniors, and property owners that have seen their property values decrease in recent years. In addition to fulfilling the mandated duties of the County Assessor, I will always be an advocate for the taxpayer. Through public outreach and educational programs I will increase the public's awareness of programs designed to save taxpayers money. I am a strong supporter of Proposition 13 and I will work diligently to communicate the truth about this landmark legislation. Proposition 13 is not the root of California's budget crisis. Above all I will always perform my duties with the highest degree of fiscal responsibility. Last summer the appointed Assessor closed two branch offices and cut hours and services to the taxpayer, all in the name of budget cuts. Then in January 2010 he accepted a 4.5% increase in his salary. This is the kind of leadership that we don't need and can't afford in any elected office. On June 8, 2010, please place your vote for Experience, Advocacy, and Fiscal Responsibility Elect Jeff Olson San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk |
